These are very special days for The Journey Church family! Yesterday we met for the first time in our temporary venue in the Mackenzies home. We squeezed more into into their home than we ever have before. The fellowship was sweet and we did a lot of reflection on Jesus - the Head of the church.
In on reflections on the Scriptures, we spent time looking at Jesus words in Matthew 16:18 where Jesus said, "I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." We looked at a few things from this:
1. Who is this Jesus who spoke these words - Colossians 1:15-20 was helpful here.
2. The church is His and He will build it. That gives us a liberating assurance because He is the builder. It brings us a sobering reality because He chooses to use us. Then a comforting reality in the fact that what Jesus builds also lasts.
3. The church is His and so He gets the glory. It's His bride. In actual fact it's our job as the bride to put the attention on the groom i.e. Jesus. Lance Witt wrote, “There should never be anything blocking the bride’s view of the Grooms glory. My constant challenge is to get myself out of the way so that the bride will be awestruck by the incomparable majesty of her Groom.”
That's our goal - to get out the way so that the bride will be awestruck by the incomparacle majesty of her groom!
